Whale Watching - Redondo Beach, CAADay one: We flew out of Bismarck, ND and met up with Auntie AriAnne in Denver, CO. We boarded our next flight to LAX. When we arrived in Los Angeles, CA, we got our vehicle and checked into our vacation rental. It was awesome! It was a beautiful home next to a school with a playground. That evening we ate at In and Out Burger, then my brothers and I went to the park and played basketball and tether ball. We made some new friends at the playground. It was a lot of fun.
Day two: we woke up, had breakfast, and headed out to Redondo Beach Pier for our first day of Whale Watching. When we arrived at the pier we were able to climb down by the water onto some rocks, and guess what we found?.... SOME BLUE CRABS! My brother, Michael, was brave and picked them up, but my brother, Brayden, and I just enjoyed looking at them. We got to wander around the pier exploring for a bit and we met a really nice couple from Scotland, Charlie and Christine. They went on the same whale watching tour as us! As soon as we got on the water we saw some very cute sea lions. They were sunning themselves on a buoy. It seemed like we were out on the ocean for quite a while before we saw some dolphins. There was a huge pod of 50 or more. Then Captain Rick heard from some friends that whales were near by. We hurried to a spot close by and we saw NINE Blue Whales. They were so big. We learned a lot about Blue Whales. They're the largest being to have ever lived on Earth. Their tongues are as big as an African Elephant, their heart is as big as a Volkswagen Beetle, their arteries are big enough for an adult human to swim through, and they can grow to be 110 feet long. WOW! Captain Rick let me drive the ship back toward shore for a bit. Then, a small pod of dolphins gave us a great show at the bow of the ship! After whale watching, we ate lunch at Captain Kidd's and checked out some of the shops on the pier. Auntie bought us ice cream. Yum! We finished off the night with a great evening at Medieval Times Dinner Theatre. I loved the jousting and especially the falconer.

Day three: Another fun filled day at a different marina to go whale watching. On this day we saw five blue whales. We were able to be a little closer and got to see just how ginormous they really are! Their tails are as wide as a professional soccer net. We also got to see The Queen Mary. I was especially excited about this because I have watched some documentaries about her on YouTube. On the bus ride over we met two couples from Australia that were staying at The Queen Mary. The gentleman fought in the Navy during the Vietnam War. They were so nice and they showed us some cool spots on the ship! We finished the evening with a yummy dinner at Bubba Gumps and relaxed back at the house.

Day four: We spent ALL day at Manhattan Beach. It was so fun playing in the sand and the ocean. We found a LOT of sea shells, but we couldn't keep any because they're part of the eco system. The tide was up a bit and the waves were strong. Some of them even knocked my dad down. After a long day playing in the water and sand we ate one of my favorite meals, spaghetti, at an Italian restaurant. I was pretty tired after my big plate so I fell asleep shortly after we got back to the house.
Day five: We headed back to North Dakota. It was a long day of traveling. We parted ways with my auntie in Denver and flew back to Bismarck. We got home to Dickinson around 2:00 in the morning. I spent the next couple days resting and taking a vacation from my vacation.
Thank you, Brave Young Hearts. My Whale Watching Adventure was amazing. An experience I will always remember and cherish. My whole family loved the time together just being able to be a family, and not worry about my cancer treatments. You all rock!!
Sincerely,
Silas
